After losing to eventual winners Australia four yr ago in the 2015 World Cup semi-finals, Right now current Indian cricket team under Virat Kohli was viewed as serious title contenders for the ICC Cricket World-Cup 2019 in England this summer.
Ranked No.2 in ODI's, Virat Kohli’s Indian cricket team won seven out of eight completed league matches (one was the washed out) to enter the World Cup semi-finals as points table toppers, but then India lost to New Zealand by 18 runs in a semi-final spread over two days on account of rain.
In this ICC Worldcup 2023 hopes of countless Indian fans, and as happens with the end of each World Cup, the focus would be shifted towards building the next edition. The 2023 World Cup will be played in India, & on that note let’s take a look at how many of the current squad could be around in four years.
Of India’s squad for the 2019 World Cup, seven are aged 30 and above while another are, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, will turn 30 in Feb 2020. Jasprit Bumrah (25yr), Hardik Pandya (25yr), KL Rahul (26yr), Mayank Agarwal (28yr), Vijay Shankar (28yr), Yuzvendra Chahal (28yr) and Mohammed Shami (28yr) are under 30. Two players, Rishabh Pant (21yr) & Kuldeep Yadav (24yr), both are under the age of 25.
MS Dhoni, who turned 37yr this month during the tournament 2019, has played his last World Cup and his future as an Indian cricket is in it's final stages.
